Announcing a new version of the GES4SEAS Toolbox

We are excited to announce the release of GES4SEAS Toolbox 2.0! This latest version brings a new set of features and improvements to support researchers, policymakers, and marine managers in the evaluation of the impacts of cumulative pressures on marine ecosystems.

In this version, some important changes have been introduced. It now allows value transfer from tabular datasets to maps, specific classification or spatial unit assignment to pixel values of raster maps, analysis with more than one action block as the final block of the analysis, and tabular data import with custom assignment of table columns to specific “meanings”.

It also provides an indicator section pre-filled with 619 indicators and their metadata, as well as implementations for CEA and NEAT, NEAT status assessment tool integrated into indicator section, folder structure for analyses templates, and the necessary infrastructure to allow user-defined scripts as analysis templates

Lastly, version 2.0 of the toolbox also improved some pre-existing features, such as a nearly complete re-write of the importing and metadata tools for easier and quicker workflow, a redesign of the inner working of the toolbox for more consistency and flexibility of user features, an inclusion of pre-defined CEA assessment templates and corrected inconsistencies in the Halpern-style CEAs.

To make sure users make the best of this new version, an online workshop will be held by GES4SEAS to introduce the toolbox’s main features needed for the work across the different Learning Sites. The session will be complemented with some additional instructional materials, including short video tutorials.

Stay tuned for more updates as we keep refining and expanding the GES4SEAS toolbox. We look forward to sharing how these new tools will help us achieve Good Environmental Status (GES) across European waters!
